The State Duma of the Russian Federation has begun the bill on the fight against Internet piracy

The State Duma of the Russian Federation today will begin consideration in the first reading of the bill on the fight against piracy on the Internet.

This bill involves simplifying the procedure for blocking sites in Russia. It provides for the option of restricting access to electronic resources on the slightest complaints of copyright holders before the court. Such an opportunity is also provided for in amendments to the Civil Code, which are aimed at protecting copyrights in photo, audio – and video materials.

According to the provisions of the bill on the fight against piracy on the Internet, copyright violation is considered – placing both the files themselves and links to them without the consent of the author. Complaining to any site if the bill is adopted will be very simple. To do this, send an appropriate application by e -mail. The provider must delete the specified material within 24 hours. If he ignores this requirement, then the site will be included in the “black list” and blocked.

These provisions of the bill have already caused indignation in a number of leading Internet companies. So Yandex is afraid of abuse using a simplified procedure for closing sites, which can be used to combat competitors or closing objectionable sites.
